Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project
Koteshwar Hydro-Electric Project (400 MW), located 22 km downstream of Tehri, is an integral part of Tehri Power Complex comprising of Tehri Dam & HPP (1000 MW), Tehri PSP (1000MW) and Koteshwar HEP (4X100 = 400MW) to develop Hydro-electric potential of river Bhagirathi. It will facilitate the functioning of Tehri Power Complex as a major peaking station in Northern grid as reservoir created by Koteshwar Dam having a live storage capacity of 35.0 MCM will function as lower (balancing) reservoir for Tehri PSP. This project is also regulating water releases from Tehri reservoir for irrigation purpose.
The original work was awarded in November 2002 with 394 Crs and it was successfully completed in 2013 with a total workvalue of 1000 Cr Approx.
This project consists of Lining for Diversion tunnel of 8.0m dia Horse shoe type with a length of 593m. and a access tunnel of 8m dia D shape of 500m length to approach open powerhouse. The entire project consists of a total Excavation of It is concrete gravity dam with a max ht above deepest foundation is 100m approx.. This dam consists of 4 spillways with 4 no 18mx16m radial gates. A power intake was constructed on the Rightbank with 4no penstocks of 6.2m dia. A surface powerhouse was constructed at the toe of the dam on right bank. This project also consists of construction of civil works in the outdoor switch yard like switch yard control room building, basements for towers etc.
The total Excavation qty executed in this project is 82 Lakh cum, and total Concrete qty executed in this project is 10.68 Lakh Cum.
All four units (Unit-I, Unit-II, Unit-III & Unit-IV) were synchronized with the Northern Grid in March’ 11, March’11, Jan’12 & Mar’12 respectively.
